This customer bought his 1968 Suburban for use as a hunting vehicle. He is currently restoring it and it needed our attention. The truck had no stereo in it at all so we had to work from the ground up. Dru started by wiring up the JVC KD-G730 which is a nice deck to start building with. It comes with a lot of features built in like MP3 player, AUX Input, fold down and detachable face, and 3 sets of preouts.
Now it was time to pick speakers. The customer wanted a nice sound but didn’t want to lose any space. So we went with a set of Memphis MCSYNC5.25’s in the front doors and mounted them as a coaxial. A set of MCSYNC6’s in the rear that I mounted in small custom enclosures really helps to get a nice bass response from the speakers. The biggest obstacle was that because there was no stereo in the truck we had to run wires for everything. The catch was that there isn’t going to be any carpet in this truck. So I had to run the wires through the ceiling to avoid seeing and tripping over the wires. After that was out of the way I went on to mount an antenna to the wiper cowl. The end result was a nice clean install with no lost space in the vehicle, that had a great sound as well.
