This customer came in looking to upgrade the factory system in his Nissan 350z. His first concern was that he did not want to give up any space in his hatch area, as he does use the storage area in the back quite often. His second concern was that he wanted to have a sound that would rival his home stereo.
With this in mind, I suggested going with a custom enclosure for a single 10” Memphis Music Class subwoofer in the factory storage area behind the driver’s seat, this area is used for the factory Bose subwoofer when equipped as such.
The customer listened to several component sets for the front of his car and decided on the Memphis MCSQ6.5’s. Just wanting some rear fill, we chose to go with the Memphis Music Class 2-way speakers, instead of a full blown component set.
One other item that did catch his eye while in the store was the new AVN-2210P from Eclipse, this unit was perfect for him: removable Navigation, Bluetooth Hands Free Cellular operation & much more, all in the factory sized double din chassis, so we knew it would look great in his dash.
With the car disassembled, the first thing we did was Dynamat most of the vehicle. Bob then went on to build the custom enclosure for the sub, and get it mounted into the section behind the driver’s seat. All of the factory panels were then reinstalled, giving the sub a factory installed appearance. Fortunately for the customer, the Memphis sub puts out a lot more bass (and cleaner sounding too) than a factory Bose sub could ever dream of.
The Memphis MC6 rear speakers were installed in the rear bulk head locations and the mids from the MCSQ set were installed in the factory front door locations. After spending some time listening to the tweeters in various locations, we decided they would work best flush mounted in the factory upper door locations. We also decided to flush mount the tweeters instead of using the traditional cups that come with the tweeters.
The last order of business was to get the AVN unit installed into the factory dash location, as well as installing a 5 channel amp to run everything.
The customer is very pleased with the sound of his new audio system, the bass is deep and clear, and his high end speakers remind him of listening to his home stereo system, which is exactly what he wanted. H has used the navigation quite a few times already, and loves it.
