As the store manager at Mobile Edge, I am responsible for opening the store by 9 a.m. and getting all of our aftermarket technology and audio ready for the day. I have a pretty steady routine each morning that gets me out of my house and to the store between 8:35 and 8:45. On this particular Friday morning in July, things started out a little differently. I hit the snooze button on the alarm a few too many times and started off a little later than usual. I wasn’t panicking because I always have extra time. I jumped in my truck to head to work about 10 minutes later than normal, and as I started to pull away from the house, the big yellow Low Fuel light reminded me that I didn’t feel like stopping to fuel up the night before. My 10-minute delay was about to grow.
From Bad To Worse
I pulled into a gas station in Summit Hill, and being in a rush, used the “pay at the pump” option to make this as efficient a process as I could. As happens when your schedule has changed and you are in a rush, things went wrong. I managed to lock my keys in the truck. I’m still not sure how, but I did it. I wan’t panicked. The Mobile Edge Demo truck has a DroneMobile cellular interface on the remote starter and security system. I just need to log into the App and unlock the doors. I reached into my pocket to pull out my phone when I realized it was in my Magic Mount on the dash of the truck.
DroneMobile To The Rescue
I went into the store to ask the clerk if I could use the phone to call our store owner, Mitch, and have him log into my DroneMobile account and unlock the truck. I noticed the clerk put her smartphone down on the counter when I approached. I told the woman that I had managed to lock my keys in my truck and asked if she would mind downloading an app to her phone so I could unlock it. She was stunned that a phone could unlock a vehicle.
After my quick explanation she agreed to download and install the app and let me use her phone. I logged in, sent the Unlock command, logged back out and uninstalled the app in under a minute. Before the app was uninstalled, my vehicle’s doors unlocked and the parking lights flashed. I thanked the clerk for her help and headed on my way – proud of my creativity.
Success!
In spite of my delays, I made it to the store at 8:59, unlocked the front door and got the day started.

My girlfriend remote started her vehicle, while brushing snow off the starter timed out and locked the keys in the vehicle. She got to a phone, called me, I logged in, paid for the upgrade and within 20 mins I had the vehicle unlocked for her from an hour drive away.

Something does not add up. My equal payment utility bill made up of just natural gas and elcrietcity went up each of the last three years for the same amount of usage. I'm about 50% natural gas and 50% electric on a yearly basis (gas higher in the winter and electric higher in the summer). Natural gas is down 32% and electricity is up 3%, so where is my savings from the huge natural gas price decline? I think I know that answer.
