A client from Allentown, Pennsylvania, brought his 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee to Mobile Edge in search of a navigation system. The client wanted to enhance his ability to use his vehicle safely. Features like navigation and smartphone integration were high on his list of requirements. We let the client connect his iPhone to the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX, and he liked how CarPlay gave him easy control over so many features. We booked an appointment to install the new source unit and a few accessories.
Data Information Interface
Most modern vehicles use a data communication network within the vehicle’s electrical system for almost every function. The network knows how fast you are going, if your seatbelt is buckled, if your engine is operating properly and much more. iDatalink manufactures an interface called the Maestro RR that works with the Pioneer radio. This interface, when combined with a new radio, allow the owner to see information like tire pressure, engine and vehicle speed, battery voltage, and engine diagnostic code data on the screen of the Pioneer. The Maestro RR interface also lets the factory steering wheel audio controls work with the new radio.
Easy to Stay in Touch
If you have an iPhone, then having a radio with CarPlay makes staying in touch with family and friends so much easier. You can send and receive text messages, make phone calls, and listen to music, podcasts and audiobooks, all using your voice. You tell CarPlay what you want, and it delivers. You can even search for a navigation destination, and it will launch Apple Maps and plot you a route. The system provides full text-to-speech navigation prompts while you drive.
Enhanced Vehicle Safety
A large SUV like the Grand Cherokee has a big blind spot behind it. We let the client know that we could easily install a backup camera on the rear of his vehicle. With the client’s approval, we installed a Rostra wedge-mount camera just above the license plate. As soon as the transmission is in reverse, the Rostra displays the camera image. Now, kids, animals and objects behind the vehicle are easy to see and will be safe when the client backs up.
Grand Cherokee Navigation Is Just What the Client Wanted
The client returned to try out his new navigation system. He loved how intuitive the menus were and how easy CarPlay was to use with just a push of a button on his steering wheel. He was excited about exploring all the new features on his drive back to Allentown.
