Bed Cover and Backup Camera for Lehighton Toyota Tacoma

A client from here in Lehighton recently dropped into Mobile Edge to inquire about adding a bed cover to his 2014 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. The client told us he travels to New York frequently and wanted to protect the contents of the truck. Mike went out to have a look at the Tacoma and confirm the dimensions. He observed that while a hard cover would provide the protection the client wanted, the truck didn’t have a locking tailgate. After some research, we found a solution that would provide the total security package the client wanted. Here’s what we did.

The hinged cover helps protect the lock from snow in the winter.

Our project started with the installation of a RetraxPro 40811 roll-up aluminum bed cover. The extruded aluminum slats roll into a compact container just behind the cab of the truck and make loading and unloading materials easy. The cover features a low-profile lock on the driver’s side to ensure that it stays put once closed. An important feature here in Pennsylvania is the weather cover, which protects that locking mechanism from ice, snow, road grime and debris.

Tailgate Lock with Backup Camera

The locking handle retained the factory backup camera.

To secure the bed, we installed a PopNLock PL5400 tailgate handle. This handle includes a key slot and BOLT technology. BOLT stands for Breakthrough One-Key Lock Technology and is licensed from Bolt Lock. This system allows the client to use the original ignition key to control the tailgate lock rather than having to add another key to his keychain.

The PopNLock mechanism retains the factory backup camera to ensure that the client can park and maneuver the vehicle safely. The camera fits into the right side of the handle mechanism and the whole assembly functions and looks as though it came from the factory.

With the bed cover and locking tailgate handle installed, we called the client and let him know his Tacoma was ready. When he returned to Mobile Edge in Lehighton, we showed him how to use and care for the bed cover and explained how the BOLT system makes locking the tailgate a breeze.
