One of our regular clients brought in his “Big Red Truck” — a 1971 Chevrolet C60 fire truck — for an audio system installation. He needed some music while cruising around in this classic workhorse, and wanted to add some new technology to make accessing his tunes much easier.
We dove right in on the opportunity to work on this unique machine. He wanted to keep things simple and did not want a lot of equipment visible, so we attacked the project with those things in mind. We selected a Sony MEX-N5300BT radio to put in his dash that required a small modification to the existing sheet metal dashboard. This radio has a CD player, and boasts great AM/FM reception and a SiriusXM satellite radio connection for easy future upgrades. The Bluetooth capability allows hands-free calling, and also enables him to stream his favorite music services, like Spotify or Pandora, from his phone. This radio powers a set of Hertz Dieci 6×9″ coaxial speakers in small enclosures behind the seats, and they fill the cabin with plenty of sound.
