A client from New Tripoli contacted the Mobile Edge team about upgrading the stereo system in his 2022 Jeep Wrangler. He wanted a radio that included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. He wanted new speakers for the soundbar to replace the original ones that had been damaged. Finally, he asked if we could install a new backup camera so he could use his bike carrier on the spare tire. After helping the client choose a radio, amplifier and speakers that delivered the performance he wanted, we scheduled an appointment to begin the upgrade.
The client chose a Pioneer DMH-W4600NEX multimedia receiver for the Jeep. He also wanted SiriusXM satellite radio, so we added an SXV300V1 tuner module. We used an iDatalink KITWJL1 harness and dash kit to install the radio into the Jeep, then programmed an iDatalink Maestro RR to communicate with the vehicle computers. The RR module allows the radio to show vehicle information like engine speed, vehicle speed, load information and much more.
We mounted a Momento MR-C300 backup camera on the rear license plate. We wired it into the new radio so he could see obstacles behind the vehicle when parking or maneuvering.
The client chose a Hertz HMP4D four-channel amplifier to go with the new Pioneer radio to give the speakers in the vehicle some extra punch. This amp can produce 50 watts of power for each dash and overhead speaker. That’s a lot more than the 15 or 16 watts provided by the radio. The bass will be more precise, and the system will play much louder.
The last step in upgrading this Jeep’s stereo system was replacing the speakers in the overhead soundbar. The client picked a set of Hertz Cento-Series CPX-165 6.5-inch coaxial speakers. We used a set of Metra JP-1015 mounting plates and BC-SPG mesh grilles to give the speakers a factory-installed look in the overhead speaker pods.
The client returned to Mobile Edge at the end of the day. He listened to the new stereo system and was thrilled with the upgrade in performance.
