A client from Danielsville, PA, contacted Mobile Edge to inquire about upgrading his 2017 Jeep Wrangler audio system. As with most Jeep clients, he wanted the system to play louder and to sound better. We had a look at the Jeep to confirm that our plan would work for the client. He liked our plan, so we scheduled an installation time.
Hertz Dieci Speakers
We installed a set of Hertz Dieci-series DSK165 components in the front of the Jeep. We used the stock speaker locations to keep things neat and tidy. The client chose a set of DCX165 coaxial speakers for the rear of the Jeep. We mounted these speakers in overhead speaker pods. The Dieci series of speakers offers an excellent balance of performance, efficiency and value. These traits make them a great upgrade solution.
Subwoofer System
The client had planned to remove the rear seat of the Jeep. We took advantage of that and installed a pair of Hertz DS300 subwoofers in a sealed enclosure. The sealed enclosure is smaller than a ported design. Having a pair of 12-inch subs provides excellent system efficiency and output – perfect for a fun little vehicle like this Jeep. The client can easily remove the subwoofer enclosure if he needs to transport a larger item, or reinstall the rear seat to haul friends around.
Integration and Amplification
We installed an AudioControl LC7i interface to connect to the factory head unit. This unit ensures we have a good, clean signal from the radio. We added an ACR-1 remote control to allow the client to fine-tune the bass level in the vehicle.
We mounted the LC7i and a Hertz HCP5D five-channel amplifier in the storage compartment at the rear of the cargo area. The HCP5D is capable of producing up to 65 watts per channel for the front and rear speakers and 330 watts for the pair of subwoofers. We used the crossovers built into the amp to limit bass frequencies going to the front and rear speakers, then to send only bass information to the subwoofer channels.
Jeep Wrangler Audio System Delivery
Once the installation was complete, the client returned to Mobile Edge in Lehighton, PA, to hear his audio system for the first time. He was shocked at how much better the system sounded with new speakers and an amplifier to power them. The addition of the subwoofer and the ability to adjust the bass level from the front seat was the icing on the cake. He was grinning ear-to-ear while listening to it.
