A client from Germansville recently dropped by Mobile Edge to inquire about a 1993 Jeep Wrangler audio system upgrade. The client showed Bob his Jeep and explained that although he titled it as a 94 model, it’s made up of parts from many different vehicles. He built the Jeep to take out and have fun with. Now he wanted a stereo system that could add to his days on the trails! We looked at the equipment he had and came up with a plan to improve the performance and reliability of the system.
Head Unit Wiring
We started the project by removing the Pioneer DEH-X7800BHS Bluetooth receiver from the dash of the Jeep and redoing all the wiring to the radio. We added three sets of RCA cables and made sure that the SiriusXM SXV300V1 tuner was mounted securely. Finally, we tightened the fit of the mounting bracket in the dash and put the radio back in place.
Jeep Speaker Upgrade
The client had some old four-inch speakers in the dash. We removed those and installed a set of Hertz DCX100 coaxial speakers instead. We reused the square grilles from the original speakers because they looked right in the dash and they fit nicely.
The client had a set of speaker pods behind the seats that include mounting locations for 6×9-inch speakers. The pods mount in front of the rear wheel wells and wrap nicely around the factory roll bar. They even include a cup holder! We installed a set of Hertz DCX690 three-way 6x9s in the pods.
Amp and Sub Upgrade
Our fabrication team created a steel mounting bracket for a Memphis Car Audio MXA5.600 five-channel amplifier. The amp mounts to the factory seat rails under the driver’s seat. The amp is raised off of the floor, so any mud or slush that gets into the vehicle won’t cause any damage.
The last piece of equipment in the upgrade is a Memphis Car Audio SA112SP subwoofer enclosure to add some clean and clear bass to the system. The client didn’t want to sacrifice any floor space, so we mounted the enclosure on top of the wheel well. We used the mounting hardware for the hardtop to secure it in place.
Jeep Wrangler Audio System Tuning
With all the great equipment installed, we set the crossovers and sensitivity controls on the amp to ensure the system would sound great and play loud without distorting. Once ready, it was time for the client to have a listen. He was thoroughly impressed by the transformation!
