A client from Nesquehoning recently returned to Mobile Edge to upgrade his 2018 Jeep Wrangler with a high-performance subwoofer system. We built a custom subwoofer enclosure for this client many years ago. That enclosure has been in his vehicles, as well as several friends’ vehicles. The client wanted an amplifier and that well-traveled enclosure installed in his Wrangler.
Jeep Wrangler Subwoofer System
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler that this client owns came from the factory with a small subwoofer mounted in the cargo area floor. We removed the little plastic enclosure and oval subwoofer to make way for the amplifier to power the new system. As we do in most of our installations, we created an amplifier mounting bracket out of steel to ensure everything would stay secure in the vehicle.
The mounting bracket holds a Hertz ML Power 1 monoblock subwoofer amp along with a Connection SSF 2.5 DGT 2.5-Farad stiffening capacitor. The ML Power 1 can produce up to 1,000 watts of power into 2- and 1-ohm loads. We ran four-AWG Connection power wire to the battery at the front of the Jeep to ensure the amp would receive the power it needs to drive the subwoofers. The stiffening cap helps to smooth the load on the factory electrical system and ensure the system remains dynamic and clear at high volume levels.
We added a remote level control knob to the amplifier so that the client can adjust the subwoofer system from the front seat. The level control is mounted in the center console, directly behind the cupholders.
Custom Subwoofer Enclosure
The enclosure we created is a vented design with a pair of large slot ports in the center. A vented cabinet design dramatically improves the efficiency and low-frequency output of a subwoofer system. The subwoofers in this enclosure are Memphis Car Audio 15-M512D4 12-inch drivers. Each is rated to handle 600 watts of continuous power.

Once we had the amp, cap and subwoofer enclosure installed into the Jeep, our technicians finished the project by setting the crossover and sensitivity control on the amp to let the bass blend nicely with the speakers in the rear of the vehicle. The client can crank the volume on the radio without fear of damaging the subs.
The client returned to Mobile Edge and auditioned the subwoofer system we installed. He was thrilled with how it sounds and loves that he can see the amp and cap through the cut-out in the trunk floor from the original sub.
