A client from Lake Ariel recently contacted the team at Mobile Edge in Lehighton to inquire about sourcing and installing some Jeep Wrangler styling upgrades. The client wanted to upgrade all the lighting on the vehicle and add some aggressive styling accessories to transform the look of his 2017 Wrangler. After inspecting the vehicle, we looked through several websites and catalogs to help him choose options that matched the look he wanted to achieve.
Front Grille and Lighting Upgrade
We started by removing the factory headlights, turn signals and the original front grille. The client chose a set of Heise half-halo projector-style replacement headlights for the Jeep. These 7-inch lights drop into the factory mounting brackets and feature a standard H4 connector and an IP67 water and dust intrusion rating. The lights feature six 10-watt CREE LEDs for safe and efficient illumination of the area in front of the vehicle. We also installed a set of smoked-lens LED turn signal lights. These bulbs include built-in resistors that eliminate hyper flashing or bulb-out warnings.
We also installed a gladiator-style front grille to add unique and more aggressive styling to the front of the Jeep. The grille bolts in using the factory mounting hardware and doesn’t require any permanent modifications to the vehicle.
LED Jeep Fog Lights and Light Bar
While working on the front of the vehicle, we upgraded the factory halogen fog lights with a set of 4-inch Heise LED units. The new fog lights each feature six 5-watt CREE LEDs to help light up the area in front of the Jeep. The lights mount directly to the factory light mounting locations.
The last upgrade on the front of the vehicle was the installation of a 50-inch Heise LED Lightbar. We used a set of A-pillar brackets that are laser-cut out of 7-gauge steel. The brackets have a powder-coated finish and include mounting gaskets to prevent metal-on-metal contact that could lead to corrosion. The light bar is a dual-row design with a total of 96 LEDs. The assembly is based around a die-cast extrusion and features a Gore membrane that allows humidity to escape from inside the assembly to keep the lens clear. The light features two 90-degree floodlight groups at either end of the light and a narrow 8-degree spotlight pattern in the center to light long distances.
The added lighting is controlled by a switch panel that is attached to the A-pillar inside the vehicle for easy and safe access while driving.
Underbody LED and Accent Lighting
The next step was to install a set of LED under-vehicle lights. The light strips feature red, green and blue LEDs and a controller that allows the client to choose any of thousands of colors. The controller works with an app on his smartphone to choose the colors and optional color-changing patterns. The under-vehicle lights turn on automatically when a door is opening to act as puddle lights.
We added a puddle light on a custom bracket under the spare tire carrier. The light shows the Jeep logo and the iconic Jeep grille and headlight pattern on the ground when the tailgate opens. Our team fabricated the mounting bracket out of steel and welded the pieces together in the same way we create amplifier mounting brackets for our audio system upgrades. An LED light pod was added to the cargo area of the Jeep to make it easier to load and unload after the sun sets.
Jeep Wrangler Styling Project
With all the lights installed and the wiring for each run and concealed, our team finished the testing process before returning this Jeep Wrangler styling project to the client. He was thrilled with the new look of the Jeep and couldn’t wait to get the vehicle on the road after the sun sets to see how it looks.
