A client from Dallas, Pennsylvania, contacted the product specialists at Mobile Edge to inquire about upgrading the lighting, adding a remote starter and installing window tint on his 2019 Toyota Tacoma. We had a look at the truck to determine the light upgrades that were available and talked with the client about his goals for window tint and how much range he needed for reliable remote starter functionality. Armed with a thorough understanding of his needs, we laid out a plan to upgrade and personalize his Tacoma pickup to meet his expectations.
Toyota Tacoma LED Lighting Upgrades
The lighting upgrades started with new headlight and taillight assemblies from Spyder. The new lights include a pair of projector lens assemblies and an integrated LED daytime running light bar that wraps around the exterior of the assembly. The light bar switches from white to amber when the turn signals or hazard lights are in use.
The truck already had a Rigid LED light bar on the front. The client asked us to add a set of matching fog lights. We removed the front bumper to complete the installation and make sure the lights were aimed perfectly.
The rear Spyder lights carry the same light bar theme as the fronts, but with a red bar that wraps around the LED center section. The lights all bolt in without any modification to the vehicle, and we took care of making the sure the wiring was correct. A 50-inch TrailFX LED bar mounted below the rear tailgate adds additional visibility for drivers behind the vehicle and works with the turn signals and brake lights.
The last few upgrades included LED bulbs for the rear license plate and blue LED strips under the dash and seats of the truck to light the footwells in the front and back of the cab.
Toyota Truck Accessories
The client asked us to incorporate a set of Powerstep motorized side steps into the project. We installed the steps on the chassis of the vehicle and integrated the control wiring into the vehicle so the steps will extend as soon as a door opens.
For his remote starter, the client chose a Compustar system with its two-way Prime R3 one-button remote kit and a DroneMobile smartphone interface. The RF remotes provide up to 6x Power range, and the single-button design is easy to use. The smartphone interface handles long-range communication using a cellular data network.
The last piece of the project was to tint the truck’s driver and passenger windows with 3M window tint. The tint completes the look of the truck and protects the driver and passengers from UV exposure.
