A repeat client from Lehigh Valley recently visited Mobile Edge for some 2017 Jeep Cherokee safety system upgrades. We had installed an amplifier, speakers and a subwoofer in his car a few years ago. He was here having that equipment removed before he traded the car in on this new Jeep. The plan was to reinstall the subwoofer in his new vehicle as soon as he took possession.
Jeep Cherokee Safety System Upgrades
While he was here for the audio system upgrade, we started talking about how great it is to have a backup camera. He mentioned that he wished vehicles had a front-facing camera. We let him know that we could add a front camera and connect it into the factory infotainment system. He loved the plan, so we ordered the interface we would need to make the system work.
We used a PAC Audio BCI-CH41 camera interface to add a second camera to the factory infotainment system. The interface has three additional camera inputs dedicated to front, left and right cameras. If the client chooses, we can add blind spot cameras to the side of the vehicle.
We used a Momento MRC-200 parking camera to display an image of the area in front of the vehicle. Our technicians mounted the camera on the upper edge of the grille in the front bumper. The driver can activate the interface by pressing one of the buttons on the steering wheel. The interface displays the front-facing camera image but does not override the factory-installed backup camera. If you are parallel parking, the camera image switches from front to rear automatically. Pressing the button on the steering wheel cancels the front camera display.
Subwoofer System Upgrade
As we mentioned, the client wanted to add his audio equipment to the Jeep. We used a PAC Audio LP74 four-channel line-level converter to extract an audio signal from the Jeep radio. That audio signal feeds a Hertz HCP2 amplifier that we mounted under the passenger seat on one of our trademark steel amp racks. The amp rack attaches to the seat frame and spaces the amp up off the floor so that it won’t get wet. The addition of the subwoofer gives this audio system the low-frequency extension it needs.
Factory Integration Done Right
The client was thrilled with the Jeep Cherokee safety upgrades and loves the way the stereo sounds.
