A repeat customer from here in Lehighton recently returned to Mobile Edge in search of a 2014 Kia Optima audio system upgrade. The car had the Infinity audio package with a subwoofer, but it didn’t perform to his expectations. After looking at the vehicle, we designed an audio upgrade that would sound great while giving him the space he wanted.
Audison Speaker Upgrade
One of the most important aspects of any audio system is its speakers. We installed a set of Hertz Mille Pro MPK165.3 components in the front doors and a set of Hertz Mille Pro MPX165.3 coaxial drivers in the rear doors. Hushmat damping material around the speaker mounting adapters helps to ensure that the speakers sound their best.
DSP-Equipped System Amplifiers
After talking to the client about how he likes to listen to his music, we suggested that using a pair of Audison Prima amplifiers would give him the performance he wanted. Mike created a steel amp rack for a Prima AP8.9bit and a matching AP1D subwoofer amplifier. The eight-channel Prima is configured to run the tweeters on one pair of channels, the rear speakers from another pair and the midrange drivers in the doors using the remaining four channels in a bridged configuration. The system includes a processed output for the AP1D subwoofer amplifier so we can tune it at the same time as the rest of the system.
Custom Subwoofer System Upgrade
The client didn’t want to sacrifice too much room in the trunk of his car, so we suggested our Utility Subwoofer Upgrade Solution. We created a compact sealed enclosure for a pair of 10-inch Hertz ES250 subwoofers. A trim panel on the front of the enclosure blends into the sides of the trunk and includes mesh grilles to protect the drivers from damage when objects are placed in the trunk.
Kia Optima Audio System Tuning
With everything installed, it was time to break out our Audison bit Tune processor to assist in configuring the system. The bit Tune provides signal delay, output level and equalization information for each driver in the system and allows us to upload information directly to the AP8.9bit. Once configured, we hopped in and confirmed that the system provided a stable and accurate soundstage that spanned the width of the dash and offered exceptional tonal balance.
The client returned to Mobile Edge in Lehighton to pick up his car the next day. He was thrilled with the way the new Kia Optima audio system sounds, and he loved the neat and tidy look in the trunk.
