A local Ford dealership here in Lehighton contacted us about getting a 2015 F-150 backup camera and backup sensor safety solution. We work on a lot of Ford trucks, so we knew right away what would fit the bill.
We started by installing a new tailgate handle that has a backup camera built into it. This particular handle doesn’t have any protrusion for the lens, so it looks very subtle. We ran the video signal to a new rearview mirror that has a built-in monitor. As soon as the transmission is put in reverse, the camera image appears on the right side of the mirror.
To add some active accident prevention, we installed a set of ultrasonic backup sensors in the rear bumper of the truck. These sensors can detect objects behind the vehicle, as narrow as a lamppost. When the sensors detect an object behind the vehicle, a loud beeping sound starts. The speed of the beeping increases as you get closer to the object, switching to a solid tone when you are about a foot away.
