A client from Mount Pocono emailed the team here at Mobile Edge a while back to ask about having a remote starter installed in the Jeep Wrangler she was planning to buy. Part of her buying criteria for a new compact SUV was to add a car starter, so our feedback helped her narrow down her options. Once she took delivery of this cool 2021 Sarge Green Jeep, she called us to schedule an installation.
Manual Transmission Car Starter
While the Compustar hardware required to start a vehicle with a manual transmission remotely is similar to that for an automatic, the starting process is slightly different. When the owner parks the vehicle, the starter system needs to know that the transmission is in neutral. With the emergency brake set and the transmission in neutral, she can press and hold the button on the remote, and the starter will take over the engine’s operation. All she has to do is exit the vehicle and lock the doors with the remote. The starter will shut down the engine. As long as no doors are opened, she can press the start button anytime and the Jeep will begin warming up. As a second level of protection, a Compustar DAS-II sensor monitors the vehicle for motion during the starting process. If it were to lunge forward, the system would shut it down.
