A few weeks ago, Dante Angelus, the owner of Motola’s Paving, approached me about getting a system installed in a 2007 Ford F250 that is used as one of their plow trucks. These guys spend a lot of time in their vehicles when the weather is bad and they need their tunes! He was looking for something that sounded great and was functional but could get loud when necessary. He also wanted something that didn’t take up much room. We had just the right plan for him!
We started out with a JVC KDR900 deck. This unit served his needs perfectly. It has Bluetooth handsfree and A2DP wireless streaming so he can use his smartphone to stream Pandora. The radio has over 5 volts of output on the RCA’s which is perfect as the foundation of a great system.
From there, the signal goes to a Memphis Reference MR4.480 Amplifier. This is a new amp from Memphis Car Audio. It is an extremely low profile amplifier that generates a great deal of power. The amp fit perfectly under the passenger’s seat!
For highs Dante decided to go with the Hertz ESK570 5×7″ component set. The woofer dropped into the factory opening in the doors. We treated the area’s behind and adjacent to the speaker with sound deadening for an even better sound. The crossovers are mounted inside of the door panel and the Tweeters were cut into the door panel. The end result was a very clean, stock appearance!
For bass, we kept it high quality but simple. We used a Memphis C312D2 high end woofer and housed it in a customer Memphis enclosure. This fit perfectly behind the front seat with room to spare for people on either side! While not stealthy in appearance, it allows Dante to remove it if he ever has to use the truck to haul men to a paving job site.
In the end, this job was clean, simple, functional and IT ROCKS! Highs are loud and clear and the bass is low and tight! What more could you ask for when spending hours clearing snow for many businesses in the surrounding area… Including Mobile Edge!
