A client from Palmerton dropped by Mobile Edge in Lehighton to inquire about a 2017 Subaru WRX stereo system upgrade. Like all Subaru owners, he loves everything about the vehicle – except the way the stereo sounds. We talked to the client about the music he listens to and let him audition several speakers and subwoofers in our store. Our Hertz System Package turned out to be a perfect solution for breathing some life into this fun little sedan.
Amplifier and Integration Processor Installation
If you have looked at any number of our installations, then you can probably predict where and how we mounted the amplifier and integration processor in this vehicle. That’s right: Our fabrication team welded together a steel equipment rack for under the driver’s seat. The rack attaches to the car using factory bolts on the floor and provides a home for an AudioControl LC2i and a Hertz HCP4 amplifier. We finish the amp rack with a thick coat of black paint to ensure it will not rust.
Source Unit Integration
The client liked the factory radio, so we left it in the system and extracted an audio signal from it using the AudioControl LC2i processor. The outputs from the processor feed the four-channel Hertz amp. We installed an ACR1 remote control in one of the blank pop-out panels on the left side of the dash and connected it to the LC2i to provide a convenient way to adjust the subwoofer level from the front seat.
Front Speaker Upgrade
A set of Hertz Deici DSK165 6.5-inch component speakers replace the factory door speakers. We mounted the new speakers in the factory locations using HDPE adapters we created on our router table. We applied HushMat sound deadening to the door to reduce noise transfer into the vehicle and improve the performance of the new speakers.
Subwoofer System
The client listens to a lot of classic rock music. We installed a single Hertz DS300 12-inch subwoofer in a BBox sealed subwoofer enclosure and mounted it in the trunk. The angled back of the cabinet matches the rear seat angle nicely to make the best use of trunk space. The sealed enclosure we designed provides fast bass response that works well this with the client’s music preferences.
Subaru WRX Stereo System Delivery
Once we set the levels on the processor and amplifier, it was time to let the customer hear his new Subaru WRX stereo system. He loved how much clearer and more dynamic everything was.
