A client from Palmerton recently contacted the team at Mobile Edge about upgrading the stereo system in his new-to-him Chevrolet Silverado. The owner loved the truck and its features but was disappointed in how the factory-installed audio system sounded. He wanted something that would play louder, deliver better bass and sound clearer.
After inspecting the vehicle, we invited the owner to audition several of the upgrade options on the displays in our showroom. He picked out speakers, a subwoofer and an amplifier that would make his truck sound amazing.
Sony Speakers Improve Sound Quality
As always, speakers are the most critical components in any stereo system. The client chose a set of Sony’s Mobile ES XS-162ES 6.5-inch coaxial speakers for the rear doors and a set of Sony’s XS-160ES 6.5-inch component speakers for the front of the vehicle. Our fabrication team created a set of mounting adapters that would allow the new Sony drivers to bolt directly into the doors with no modifications.
We applied a layer of sound deadening to the adapters and the doors to reduce vibrations. We also used a set of silicone sealing rings that help channel all the speaker’s output through the factory grilles.
Audison Amplifier Integration
Our technicians carefully routed all the wiring for the AudioControl integration processor and the Audison amplifier.
A five-channel Audison SR5.600 amplifier powers the upgraded speakers. This amp can provide up to 75 watts to each of the four main channels. It has an integrated high-power subwoofer channel that will deliver as much as 300 watts for low-frequency signals.
We mounted the amplifier and an AudioControl LC6i integration processor on one of our custom-welded steel amp racks under the passenger side of the rear seat. The LC6i processor takes the speaker-level output signal from the factory-installed radio and converts it to a pre-amp signal that can be fed to the Audison amplifier.
Hertz Subwoofer Delivers Amazing Bass
The Hertz subwoofer was mounted in an Audio Enhancers enclosure that was specifically designed for the vehicle.
The client chose a Hertz Cento Series CS 300 S2 12-inch shallow-mount subwoofer to add bass to the Silverado. We installed the driver in an Audio Enhancers enclosure explicitly designed for this vehicle. The enclosure fits under the driver’s side and center of the rear seat and doesn’t take up valuable space in the interior.
Lehighton’s Best Car Audio Upgrades
After several hours of work, we’d installed the new car audio gear in this Silverado, and our team had finished configuring the settings on the integration processor and amplifier. The client returned to Mobile Edge to pick up his vehicle, had a listen and was thrilled with the way the new stereo sounded.
