This 2016 Mazda CX-5 SUV owner recently contacted the team at Mobile Edge in Lehighton to ask about having a remote car starter installed. Her father had suggested our shop for the work based on his past experiences. We talked to the client about where she parks the vehicle when at home and at work to suggest a control solution that would ensure she could always start the vehicle. Once we had the pertinent information, we suggested a Compustar starter paired with a set of PRO R3 remotes and the Drone telematics system. She liked the plan and gave us the go-ahead to schedule an installation appointment.
Mazda Remote Car Starter Installation
On the day of the appointment, we pulled the little SUV into our bay and put floor, seat and steering wheel covers in place to protect the vehicle. Our team prepped the wiring harness for the Compustar control module so that we had only the wires this vehicle required to complete the integration process. Once the electrical connections were complete, we protected all the wiring with automotive-grade tape keep it looking neat and tidy.
The PRO R3 remotes provide what we refer to as 20x Power range. This means they have as much as 20 times the range offered by the keyless entry remotes that come with most vehicles. The remotes also have a two-way communication feature. When the client sends a lock, unlock or remote start command, then the Compustar control module in the vehicle will send a confirmation message back to the remote, and it will beep and flash an LED.
Drone Smartphone Interface
For those times when a radio frequency remote isn’t adequate, we added a Drone telematics interface to the car starter. The client can use the DroneMobile app on her smartphone to send commands to the vehicle from anywhere she has access to the Internet. The app has the same features as the PRO R3 and adds the ability to monitor the battery voltage and check the temperature inside the vehicle. She can upgrade to the Drone Premium service to add GPS vehicle locating, maintenance reminders and Curfew Monitoring functionality. The drone uses high-speed LTE communication, so commands from the app are executed on the car in about two seconds.

After a few hours of work, we had the Compustar car starter integrated into this Mazda CX-5. When the client returned to Mobile Edge, we showed her how to use the system and helped her set up the DroneMobile app on her smartphone. She was thrilled!
