The owner of this 2009 Pontiac Vibe contacted Mobile Edge in Lehighton to ask about a backup camera solution for his car. When he visited the store, we had a demo of the new iBeam TS-STM98 rearview mirror with an integrated dash cam and backup camera on display. After seeing how the camera system worked, he knew that was exactly what he wanted and scheduled an appointment.
Pontiac Vibe Backup Camera and Dashcam Solution
The iBeam TE-STM98 is a replacement rearview mirror that features an integrated 9.8-inch LCD screen. The unit includes a forward-facing 1080p-resolution dashcam that records everything that happens in front of the vehicle while it’s in motion. A second high-definition camera that we mounted on the rear of the vehicle records simultaneously for 260 degrees of coverage. The display is also a touchscreen so the client can easily view any videos stored on the microSD memory card.
We wired the camera system so it continues to monitor the vehicle even after the ignition is turned off. The owner can review any stored video footage if he is concerned that someone bumped into or damaged the vehicle in any way.
The system includes a GPS receiver so it can store vehicle location and speed information along with the video stream. The GPS information also feeds an onscreen compass and clock.
By turning a knob on the bottom of the camera, the owner can bring up the image from either camera. As soon as the transmission is put into reverse, the monitor shows the lower third of the rear-facing camera image to serve as a backup camera. Having both a dashcam and backup camera integrated into a single unit saved the client some money and made the installation clean and tidy.
HushMat Sound Deadening
The client also wanted to make the interior of his Pontiac Vibe as quiet as possible. We installed 70 square feet of Hushmat Stealth Black Foil sound damping material to the interior of the vehicle. We treated the interior skins of the doors, the floor, the cargo area and the rear fenders of the Vibe to help keep noise from transferring into the vehicle.
Adding sound deadening not only reduces noise but can dramatically improve the performance of even a factory-installed audio system or Bluetooth communication solution. You get better sound, more clarity and, thanks to the thermal insulating properties of the material, more comfort.
Carbon County’s Mobile Enhancement Specialists
After a full day of work on this Pontiac Vibe, we had the mirror and cameras installed and the sound-deadening installation complete. When the client returned to Mobile Edge, we showed him how the camera system works. He was thrilled!
