A client from Walnutport recently brought his 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 to Mobile Edge for a stereo system upgrade and a few accessories. As can be seen in the photos, the truck is in amazing condition physically. With that said, the technology in the entertainment system was a little out of date. We showed the client a few options in terms of a new radio with modern smartphone integration features and gave him a demonstration of how adding a subwoofer would improve the sound of his music. With a plan in place for the stereo, he also asked us to order a push bar for the front of the truck.
Ram 1500 Stereo Upgrade
We started by removing the factory radio to make way for a Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX multimedia receiver. This radio features a large 6.94-inch touchscreen and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. These technologies allow the client to use voice commands to send text messages, make phone calls or choose the entertainment options he wants. He can also get turn-by-turn navigation directions to almost anywhere in North America using Google Maps or Waze. Best of all, the client can use these features wirelessly or connect a USB cable and charge his smartphone at the same time.
We used an RR interface from iDatalink to integrate the new radio into the vehicle. This module allows the radio to display vehicle information like speed and engine RPM on the screen. We also integrated the backup camera display into the radio to make it easy to see when parking or maneuvering.
Next on the audio upgrade list was the installation of a subwoofer. The client chose a 10-inch Hertz Dieci DS 25.3 sub and agreed to our recommendation of an Atrend A201-10CP under-seat enclosure. The entire subwoofer system fits nicely under the passenger side of the rear bench seat.
Subwoofer Amplifier Installation
A two-channel Hertz HCP-2 amplifier powers the subwoofer. Our team welded together a steel mounting bracket for the amp so that it fits neatly under the driver’s seat. The bracket uses the seat’s factory mounting locations to hold the amp in place and eliminate the need to make any new holes in the vehicle floor or the carpet.
Wired to the single 4-ohm voice coil of the Hertz subwoofer, the HCP 2 can produce up to 200 watts of power to ensure the client can enjoy his music.
Dodge Ram Push Bar
Once we had the stereo installed, the crossover set on the radio and the level control adjusted on the amp, it was time to turn our attention to the vehicle’s exterior. We installed a Go Rhino Charger RC2 Bull Bar on the front of the truck. This bar features 3-inch tubing with a textured powder-coat finish. It mounted directly to the frame and didn’t require that we drill any new holes.
Eastern Pennsylvania’s Truck Upgrade Experts
With the stereo upgrade dialed-in and sounding great, we showed the client how to connect his smartphone to the radio to use the voice recognition features. He was thrilled with the way his music sounded. The new bull bar added a perfect finishing touch to this enhancement project.
