A client from Jermyn traveled down to Lehighton to visit the team here at Mobile Edge for a stereo system upgrade in his 2016 Ford F-250 Heavy Duty. The truck had a basic sound system that wouldn’t play very loud and didn’t sound very good. The client wanted better speakers for more detail, a subwoofer for added low-frequency output, and an amp so he could turn up the volume. He also wanted to upgrade the radio to something with proper smartphone-integrated and hands-free calling features.
Ford Truck Stereo Upgrade
After the client auditioned several speakers and subwoofer options in our showroom and examined the features of the different radios we offer, we set to work removing the factory-installed stereo from the vehicle. We applied a layer of Hushmat sound deadening material to the doors and rear side panels of the truck to damp the metal around the speakers’ mounting surfaces. We installed a set of Hertz Cento CX570 speakers in the rear locations. The woofers from a set of Hertz CPK165 6.5-inch components are mounted to plastic adapters in the doors, and we flush-mounted the tweeters from the set into the A-pillars.
We installed a pair of 10-inch Hertz Dieci DS25.3 subwoofers in an Audio Enhancers enclosure that is designed specifically for this model of Ford truck. A Hertz HCP 5D five-channel amp is mounted to the left of the enclosure on the back wall. This amp can provide up to 65 watts of power to each of the front and rear speakers and an impressive 330 watts to the system subwoofers. We used Audison Connection power wire and interconnects with the Hertz amplifier.
Sony Radio Upgrade
The client chose a Sony XAV-AX210SXM radio to replace the factory unit in the truck. The AX210 includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, so the client can talk to the radio to perform tasks like choosing music, getting navigation directions or making phone calls. The new radio also allows him to play music on his phone wirelessly over Bluetooth, or stream an online service like Pandora or iHeartRadio.
With the installation complete and tested, we showed the client how to pair his phone to the new radio and gave him a demonstration of some of the features the voice recognition technology. He loved the way the new stereo in his Ford truck sounds and couldn’t wait to start listening to his favorite music.
