A client from Tamaqua recently dropped by Mobile Edge to talk about upgrading his 2012 Volkswagen Jetta’s audio system. We had installed the gear in a previous vehicle and he wanted to transfer it to this new car while adding a few upgrades.
We started the project by installing a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX multimedia receiver with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the dash of the car. The receiver would power the front and rear speakers directly. The client had a pair of Boston Acoustics subwoofers, a Hertz HCP1D amplifier and a stiffening cap from a previous vehicle that he wanted to use in the Jetta.
Mike welded together an amp rack for the cap and amp, then bolted the assembly to the underside of the rear parcel shelf in the car. This location minimizes the intrusion into storage space and keeps the gear out of sight.
With the install complete, Bob showed the client how the CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration features of the radio worked and helped the client pair his phone.
