A client from nearby Tamaqua recently contacted the Mobile Edge team to inquire about how to fix the radio in his 2014 Toyota RAV4. The factory-installed Entune radios in these vehicles are notorious for reliability problems. These radios will appear to start, then reboot and repeat the process. Many RAV4 owners will upgrade their vehicles with a modern radio that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto rather than put another stock radio back in the dash.
Sony RAV4 Radio Upgrade
We showed the client several upgrade options for his RAV4. He liked the easy-to-use interface of the Sony multimedia receivers. In particular, he felt the high-power 45 watt-per-channel amplifier built into the XAV-AX7000 sounded great on our display. We put together a package that included the new radio, the mounting hardware and interface modules we’d need to complete the installation. Satisfied with the decision, he gave us the go-ahead to schedule the installation.
On the day of his appointment, our technicians started by placing seat and steering wheel covers in the vehicle to protect the interior. We pulled the little SUV into our bay and connected the battery to our charging system so we knew the vehicle would leave with the battery in good condition. We removed the dash trim pieces and then took out the dead Entune radio.
This upgrade involved an iDatalink Maestro RR interface module that allows the factory-installed backup camera and the steering wheel’s radio buttons to work with the new Sony receiver. Our technicians installed vehicle-specific connectors on the Maestro module so that everything would plug into the vehicle without any need for us to modify the factory wire harness. We also provided an antenna adapter that powers the OE antenna and allows it to connect to the Sony.
Before putting the dash back together, our technicians checked the balance and fader functionality, confirmed that the backup camera worked and made a test call to confirm that the Bluetooth hands-free functions were working. Confident that everything was perfect, we buttoned everything up so we could deliver it back to the client.
Pennsylvania’s Car Radio Upgrade Experts
When the client returned to our store, we helped him pair his phone to the radio and showed him how to use the smartphone integration features to make calls, choose entertainment options and send text messages. He was thrilled with the way the bezel-less display and color-matched trim piece look in the dash.
