The owner of this 2016 Ram 2500 Big Horn recently dropped into Mobile Edge in Lehighton to inquire about upgrading the vehicle with a few accessories. The new-to-him truck didn’t come with a bed cover or bed liner, and he wanted to ensure that any cargo he carried wouldn’t damage the paint. He also asked about having the windows tinted to match the factory tint on the rears. While we had the truck here, he also asked us to install a set of low-profile fender flares and WeatherTech side window deflectors.
Pickup Truck Window Tint
The 3M Color Stable tint helped round out the look of the truck.
Before we set to work installing the accessories on the truck, we tinted the driver and passenger windows with 3M Color Stable film in a 20% shade. Of all the films on the market, the nanocarbon construction of Color Stable matches factory tint the best. This film not only looks good, but it also blocks 99% of the UV energy from the sun to protect the driver and passengers from skin damage. It also reduces IR energy transfer to help keep the interior of the truck cooler on hot days.
Ram Truck Bed Protection Upgrade
To protect the painted surfaces in the bed, we installed a DeeZee truck bed mat and matching tailgate mat. The mats are made from a Nyracord reinforced rubber that’s 0.375 inch thick. Integrated cleats hold the mats in place, so cargo is less likely to move around while driving. DeeZee cuts these durable mats to fit the dimensions of this Ram perfectly.
We added a BAK Industries BakFlip FiberMax folding bed cover to keep rain, snow and debris out of the bed while offering excellent protection against content theft. The fiberglass-reinforced polymer top panels are dent-, scuff- and UV-resistant, so the cover will look great for years. The four-piece cover folds up for full access to the bed.
Fender Flares and Window Deflectors
Adding the fender flares gave the truck a more aggressive look.
The last two items on the list were a set of Bushwacker OE-Style fender flares. These low-profile flares add half an inch of protection while fitting perfectly with the fenders of the truck for a more aggressive look.
We finished the project with the installation of a set of WeatherTech side window deflectors. Unlike most wind deflectors, these WeatherTech units fit into the window channel, so there is no adhesive strip visible. The deflectors are made from a DOT-approved glazing material that is UV-resistant.
