Volkswagen Jetta Remote Starter And Tint Addition To Shop Demo Vehicle

Having products available to demonstrate to clients who come to Mobile Edge in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, is an important part of our qualification process. When it comes to a remote vehicle starter, being able to experience how the system works makes understanding its performance – and value – much easier. We recently installed a Volkswagen Jetta remote starter in our shop demo vehicle.

Remote Starter System

The Compustar brain offers a number of features that make it a leader.

We designed the remote starter around a Compustar Start-It FT-7200S brain. We chose this brain for its reliability and manual transmission starting capability. We added an FT-DAS sensor to enhance the safety of the remote start installation. The DAS includes an accelerometer, so in the nearly impossible chance of the car attempting to start in gear, the DAS sensor will shut the vehicle down.

We paired the brain with a one-button, two-way Slice Jr. LED remote control set for up to 2,500 feet of range. We added a DR-3400 DroneMobile cellular GPS interface as well, to provide full control over the starter from anywhere there is cellular reception.

Remote Starter Installation

Every vehicle that we work on is protected while in our care. Note the steering wheel cover, shifter/console protection, and the seat covers.

Running along the factory wire paths, our wires blend right in.

We use Tesa tape, tape supplier to Volkswagen, to tape up all our harnesses.

We mounted the fuses for the system to the right of the factory fuse panel, for easy access.

It is hard to tell our wiring from the factory wiring!

While we took great care with this installation, it didn’t differ from the work we do each and every day for our clients. We protected all the wiring for the remote starter with Tesa cloth tape to mimic the factory wiring. We secured all the wires to factory harnesses to further replicate the OEM look. With everything installed, it’s hard to tell where the remote starter wiring ends and the factory wiring begins.

Regarding functionality, we performed what is known as a “factory-style” security installation. The DAS sensor also includes shock and digital tilt detection. We tied it into the factory car horn instead of adding an aftermarket siren. We also added an FT-Temp sensor, so we could program the system to start automatically at a set temperature.

Added Comfort and Protection

We installed 3M Crystalline window tint on the Jetta. Crystalline is best known for its UV-energy blocking capabilities. Most conventional window films block around 55 percent of UV energy, which means that the interior of your car will heat up, and you will still be exposed to the heating effects of the sun. Crystalline film blocks up to 99% of UV energy. This film acts like sunscreen for your car and your body.

With the remote starter and window tint installed in the newest member of the Mobile Edge demo vehicle fleet, we have another great tool to demonstrate our capabilities. Since our installer Mike owns this car, he will no longer have to get into a vehicle that’s 100 degrees inside during the summer, and he’ll be ready for whatever silliness Mother Nature cooks up in the winter.
